Welcome to the Ocean House Book Website

The Ocean House publication will feature the hotel's compelling history, oral histories of patrons through the years, data on the replication process, and breathtaking photographs.

We are here to keep interested folks informed and to provide you with the means to participate in the task of rendering the past and present of the grand old hotel.

Many architectural features were"harvested" this fall and have been put in storage. Items such as the reception desk, the front and side entrances, the front and back stairway railings and newel posts, wood paneling, fireplace mantels and stonework were carefully removed and crated. Samples of cornices, baseboards and casings and the porch railings, pilasters, columns and capitals were salvaged for replication in the new hotel. Samples of wallpaper were carefully removed and documented for the museum and for the book.

During the demolition onlookers and photo bugs had stories to share of their own experiences or stories handed down from their parents and grandparents. We invite you to contact us with your own Ocean House memories, in your own words, in brief narrative form. These memories are what makes the Ocean House's history so rich. We have already received many stories and know that there are many more out there that need to be told.

In addition, we need your memorabilia, meaning items, photos, (especially any pictures of the Ocean House Blues Night and the demolition), mementos, just about anything related to the Ocean House, in order to save the hotel's history for posterity. Please tell us what you have so we can consider items to duplicate/photograph. Send email to info@theoceanhouse.org.
Selected items will be photographed and credited, and will eventually reside in the mini-museum that will be a cornerstone of the replicated hotel.

Interested parties and volunteers are also needed to help us with research, at the Westerly Town Hall and the Westerly Library. So, history buffs and research experts join our team and make your own contribution to this exciting effort.

Many thanks and Happy New Year!
